  • well, lebanon was great. I wont talk about personal stuff, but i can mention a few things.

There's this free cinema that plays serious indie movies and documentaries. I went to a viewing of a documentary for the famous Palestinian woman documentary maker, Mai Masri. She was also there to answer questions after the show. Apparently this was her first documentary on Palestine, made during the intifada in 1989. It was called "Children of Fire" in english, and "atfal jabal an-nar" (Children of the Mountain of Fire) in Arabic. So named because Nablus was known as the mountain of fire in the intifada, for its strong resistance to the israeli occupation. The documentary followed the children of nablus and how the occupation has changed their lives. Very touching.

As for the lebanese people, with all that's going there... they're a fun loving people and nothing can stop them from partying. I only sensed the hidden tensions or feelings when i saw two cars playing loud music, each with songs denouncing another political group and chanting whatever it is they believed in. There military presence is also everywhere and there's lots of road blocks and areas that are under huge protection, because someone important is living there.

  • Interesting. I've seen that film I think...I think we showed it here on our public access tv show (which ran for two years until we ran out of money for it).

    Do you speak Arabic?
